Having just returned from a New Year visit to France I can report that the kittens are even more adorable than imagined! Grillon is more adventurous than Grenadine and just a little bit bigger but both are addicted to cuddles and kisses!
Paris was as lovely as ever. The geraniums are green and budding after a winter without frost – what a difference from the Arctic temperatures of last year.
Cathy and I have been especially busy with the launch so close. The new kits are lovely! There is great satisfaction in seeing the finished product grow from clean white paper to the beautiful stitched article.
Coming back to work brings joys and worries. A very good friend and excellent designer has contacted me. She is being almost driven out of business by copyright abuse. Her new designs have been pirated, posted on unscrupulous websites, and sold by people who have scanned and copied the charts. This is blatant theft and illegal.
Scanning and ‘sharing’ a chart is stealing. This is becoming a serious problem to all designers and I fear it is harming the cross stitching industry irrevocably. I am sure that most stitchers buy their charts from legitimate designer websites or on the High Street and take advantage of many free downloads (such as our Christmas cat and Union flag snail). They respect designers’ copyright, value our creativity and I thank these honest folk wholeheartedly.
Please don’t be tempted to accept or buy a pirated chart of any designer’s artwork. I have great sympathy with my friend. It happens to me, and it hurts.
A heart-felt thank you to all of you who support the cross stitching industry by not supporting internet thieves.
